Connection to Airport

The closest international airport is the Düsseldorf Airport. It has a direct connection by train to Dortmund Hauptbahnhof (Dortmund central station) or Dortmund University by the S-Bahn S1.

Dortmund also has an airport that can be reached by bus or taxi.

Arrival by Car

The northern campus of Dortmund University is located close in vicinity to the motorway exit "Dortmund - Dorstfeld". For people arriving from the west (Essen), this is the appropriate exit. It might also be useful for people arriving from the south (Frankfurt or Köln), using only the motorways in the Ruhr Area instead of the municipal roads.

• Arrival from the south (A45 from Frankfurt):

  Exit the motorway at “Dortmund-Eichlinghofen”, turn right and drive along “Universitätsstraße” towards “Dortmund Universität”. At the first large crossroads (“Universitätsstraße”/“Stockumer Straße") go straight on. At the first possibility turn left into “Hauert” and after 800m turn right into the “Emil-Figge-Straße”. Leave the “Emil-Figge-Strasse” after 600m and turn right into “Leonard-Euler-Straße”. Please follow the direction signs.

• Arrival from the north (A1 from Bremen) or east (A44 from Kassel):

  Change to the A2 towards “Gelsenkirchen” at “Kamener Kreuz”, and then take the A45 towards “Frankfurt” at the motorway intersection “Dortmund Nordwest”. Exit the motorway at “Dortmund-Eichlinghofen”, turn right and drive along “Universitätsstraße” towards “Dortmund Universität”. At the first large crossroads (“Universitätsstraße”/“Stockumer Straße") go straight on. At the first possibility turn left into “Hauert” and after 800m turn right into the “Emil-Figge-Straße”. Leave the “Emil-Figge-Strasse” after 600m and turn right into “Leonard-Euler-Straße”. Please follow the direction signs.

• Arrival from the west (A40-Bochum/Düsseldorf):

  Take motorway exit “Dortmund Dorstfeld/Dortmund Universität” (after the motorway intersection) and turn left into “Hauert”. After 190m turn left into “Emil-Figge-Straße” and after 600m turn right into “Leonard-Euler-Straße”. Please follow the direction signs.

• Arrival from Dortmund Center:

  If you arrive from the center of Dortmund you should first take “Wittekindstraße" (later: “Krückenweg”) and then turn right into “An der Palmweide” and stay on this road, which becomes “Emil-Figge-Straße”. After 2km turn left into “Leonard-Euler-Straße”. Please follow the direction signs.

Arrival by Public Transport

“Dortmund Universität” has its own S-Bahn station. Using the S-Bahn (local train) is the easiest way to reach the university from the central station.

• S-Bahn S1:

  Dortmund - Bochum - Essen - Mühlheim/Ruhr - Duisburg - D-Flughafen - Düsseldorf Hbf

  This S-Bahn route connects important cities in the Ruhr Area and stops at “Dortmund Universität” on the northern campus. The trip to “Dortmund Hbf” takes about 8 minutes, the trip to "Bochum” takes 15 minutes and the trip to “Düsseldorf Hbf” takes about 70 minutes. The S-Bahn S1 goes every 20 minutes.

Arrival by Deutsche Bahn

Using Deutsche Bahn (German Railways), you can reach the university either via Dortmund station or via Bochum central station. There you can take a taxi or the S-Bahn S1 to get to “Dortmund Universität”. If you choose to take the S-Bahn, you have to get off at “Dortmund Universität”.
